Soon the most valuable FSV pupil?
Jonathan Burkardt has confirmed he will remain at FSV Mainz 05 for the coming season and dismissed rumors of a move to England. “The current status is that I’m staying with Mainz and will definitely play the season here,” said the 22-year-old after consistent media reports at the 05er training camp in Grassau.
By his own admission, Burkardt is surprised at the rumors that the English club Newcastle United are seeking a commitment. “Because I don’t know anything about it myself and I’m not even interested in it.”
Burkardt scored eleven goals in the Bundesliga last season and could be a candidate for national coach Hansi Flick for the World Cup in Qatar (November 21 to December 18). His contract in Mainz runs until June 30, 2024. Burkardt’s market value is estimated at 17 million euros, which makes the young professional already the fourth most valuable player (according to career highs) that the Mainz youth has ever produced. At the top in this respect is André Schürrle, who in 2015 (at VfL Wolfsburg) had a maximum rating of 30 million euros.
