Among the weakest teams
Despite repeated self-criticism, Bo Svensson as coach of Bundesliga bottom team FSV Mainz 05 is not thinking about resigning. “That is now completely out of the question. I don’t think it’s appropriate to think about it now,” said the 44-year-old Dane before Rheinhessen’s DFB Cup second round game at Hertha BSC on Wednesday (from 8:45 p.m. in the TM live ticker).
Without a win and with only three draws, FSV is in last place in the table after nine match days, a unique record in a negative sense for the Bundesliga club (statistics), which is currently one of the weakest teams in the top 5 leagues in Europe counts.
“I’m here and I really want us to be successful again,” added Svensson at the press conference on Monday. The head coach of the crisis club recently said about himself immediately after the 2-2 draw at VfL Bochum: “You also question yourself.” Sports director Martin Schmidt, however, confirmed that the question of coaching did not arise for him at the moment. “It’s remarkable when you can work in peace like I do,” said Svensson about the vote of confidence, but emphasized: “It’s also a fact that I have to deliver.”

He has a very good relationship with sports director Christian Heidel and will always have that. “It is very, very important that you have this backing. It’s completely clear that it’s not endless.” After the downward slide in the Bundesliga with no win yet this season, Svensson and the Mainz team are hoping for the much-needed sense of success, at least in the DFB Cup. “This feeling of sitting in the dressing room afterwards with a win can give us a lot,” said the FSV coach. “It’s not an easy task in our situation, but we definitely want to advance to the next round.”
