Good news for travelers who have to go to work or study by train: the monster job on and next to the West Frisian train track has been completed. That is what spokesperson Jeroen Wienen of ProRail says. The trains have now been running on the renovated track again since this morning.
The biggest challenge was not so much the work itself, but the logistical puzzle. The work had to be completed after the spring break. “And we have now succeeded, without any delay”, adds Wienen. “The work went according to schedule and nothing crazy happened.”
And that is positive, according to construction manager Jaco Koster of ProRail. “Because afterwards, the track should be able to handle it for another 30 years.”
A monster job
The construction company Dura Vermeer, which was commissioned by ProRail to activities was working on eight locations simultaneously. For example, points, rails and sleepers were renewed in Hoorn, the train protection systems in the direction of Enkhuizen were replaced and work was done to make the railway crossing at Obdam safer.
The platforms at Bovenkarspel-Grootebroek station have also been renovated.
