Robin van Ouwekerk, the man suspected of building the torture containers in Wouwse Plantage in Brabant, died on Tuesday at the age of 41. That reports The Parool Tuesday evening.
Van Ouwekerk passed away after a month of illness. He suffered from an aggressive form of cancer for which there was no longer any treatment. According to The Parool he had deteriorated rapidly in recent days due to epileptic seizures and a cerebral infarction.
The former gym owner was arrested in July 2020 after the discovery of a series of containers containing, among other things, a torture chamber. The container complex would be used as a prison for criminal rivals. One of the containers was full of attributes that can be used for torture.
The torture containers are said to have been used by members of the criminal motorcycle club Caloh Wagoh. Delano R., the leader of Caloh Wagoh, was previously suspected of preparing an assassination attempt on Van Ouwekerk. The latter is said to have been put on a death list on the orders of Ridouan T. after he had built the torture containers.
Last May, prison sentences of up to nine years were imposed in a case over the use of the torture containers. Chief responsible Roger P., better known as ‘Piet Costa’, was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison, on top of a previous 15-year sentence. Hassan M., labeled by the court as P.’s right-hand man, was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Van Ouwekerk was also the main suspect, but the case against him was postponed due to his serious illness.
