Midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud wants to continue his career at a top club even after parting ways with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
His goal is “definitely to play in one of the top leagues at a high level,” said the 27-year-old to “Sport1”: “I’m really looking forward to a new challenge.”
There are already some attractive options for the creative player for the coming season. According to information from “Sport1”, AC Milan, Sevilla FC, SSC Napoli and Leicester City are said to have expressed an interest in Dahoud.
“But my team takes care of that. I’m a footballer. That’s my focus. Everything that comes in summer comes in summer,” said the former Gladbacher.
Dahoud “very grateful” for his time at BVB
According to information from “90min” there is even a return of the Syrian-born professional to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The online portal had already reported last week on the upcoming separation of BVB and Dahoud and also said other Bundesliga clubs than Gladbach were interested in the six.
BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl confirmed to the “Bild” newspaper on Monday that the contract with Dahoud, which expires in the summer, will not be extended.
The two-time national player only played six competitive games this season after suffering a shoulder injury. In total, Dahoud has made 137 appearances for Dortmund since moving from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2017, scoring five goals.
“The time at Dortmund was wonderful and, above all, the fans have always supported me,” said Dahoud: “So there is a special connection. I’m very grateful for that.” Until he leaves, his focus is entirely on BVB. “If the team needs me, I’m there 100 percent,” said Dahoud.
