Magnet fishermen think that UZI can perhaps be linked to Bende Van Nijvel
In November last year, investigators searched for a weapon in the Damse canal. It could mean a breakthrough in the case of the Bende van Nijvel. The search yields nothing, because a month before, Dutch magnet fishermen retrieved the weapon from the Leopold Canal. John Molenaar, Dutch magnet fisherman: “Then I had a bag attached to my magnet. I lift it up, all the mud in it. I cleaned it. Then I see a loader and a little further on I see an Uzi.”
John has the weapon cleaned and takes it to the police in Knokke-Heist. They will no longer find traces, but the serial number can reveal a possible link with the gendarmerie or the Bende van Nijvel.
