Magisterial hat-trick: Marianne Vos sprints to third stage victory in a row

A great achievement by Marianne Vos. The rider from Babyloniënbroek took her third stage win in a row in the Tour of Scandinavia on Thursday.

Just like in the first two stages, 35-year-old Vos was the fastest in the bunch sprint. In the Norwegian town of Sarpsborg, she drove the Danish Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and the Belgian Shari Bossuyt out of the wheel, after which the hands could go up again. Extra clever: about 60 kilometers before that, Vos was involved in a crash.

It cannot be ruled out that Vos, who logically also leads the general classification, will repeat her trick on Friday. Then another flat stage is on the program and so a fourth bunch sprint is looming. There are still some hills to follow this weekend.

Disqualification
The victories will taste extra sweet after last Sunday’s downer. Then Vos won a one day race in Sweden. But just before entering the podium, the Jumbo-Visma rider was disqualified because she was banned for a few seconds’puppy paw‘ attitude drove. This position, where the wrists hang loosely over the handlebars, is prohibited to prevent falls.
