Madrid agrees the settlement with Hazard

The farewells begin at Real Madrid. The white club has announced the goodbye of Eden Hazard, with whom he has reached an agreement to terminate his contract, which expired in June 2024. That of the Belgian forward is one of the three known casualties, for the moment, that the squad will register, since Mariano Díaz does not renew commitment to the entity and Marco Asensio, who announced his departure, prefers to look for opportunities away from the Bernabéu.

“Real Madrid wants to express its affection for Eden Hazard and wishes him and all his family good luck in this new stage”, reads the club’s official note about who has been one of the biggest failures in the recent history of Madrid in the division between the cost involved and the performance offered.

Hazard cost between 120 and 160 million in 2019, amounts that Florentino Pérez never wanted to specify as the months went by and the Belgian international did not correspond to the high expectations that he did generate at Chelsea and that motivated his stratospheric signing. He’s still paying off.

Hazard has only played 76 games out of the 219 possible games: not even 35%.

Hazard, 32, has barely played 76 games in these four seasons of the 219 possible matches. Three quarters of his stay has been spent in the infirmary, on the bench or in the stands. He leaves with a ridiculous contribution of 7 goals during this time. However, he has expanded his personal record with the eight titles collected by the team.

Having barely played this campaign, Robert Martínez summoned him for the World Cup in Qatar with Belgium. He was a starter in the first two games and a substitute in the third and last when the team was eliminated in the group stage. Then, he announced that he was leaving the national team. Before the tournament he had barely played three games with Madrid and then he also played three.

Mariano has been another substitute who leaves without pain or glory. He has played nine games this season, without ever setting himself up as a possible replacement to give Karim Benzema a break. The contribution of the 29-year-old Premià de Dalt striker can be summed up in 84 games since 2017.

More sensitive is the loss of Marco Asensio, who has been a resolute revulsion for Madrid, with valuable appearances (12 goals in 50 appearances this season, 61 in 285 games throughout his white career) when claimed. Asensio has spent seven seasons at the Bernabéu, with one of them (19-20) practically blank after suffering a torn cruciate ligament in his knee.

The striker from Palma de Mallorca (27 years old), wants to stop being just a replacement, and leaves Madrid in search of a leading role. Asensio could announce his signing for Paris Saint Germain as soon as the two league tournaments are over.
