During the Belgium gig she commented on her hospital stay and her health.
Madonna performed in Belgium on Sunday night (October 21) as part of her ongoing “The Celebration” tour, which had to be postponed due to her serious bacterial infection. During the show, Madonna spoke visibly emotionally about her hospital stay.
Four months ago, in June 2023, the artist was hospitalized. At first it was unclear what the 65-year-old’s health was like. It didn’t just seem to be the case with the public, as Madonna explained during the performance that not only was her survival “a damn miracle,” but also that many people no longer believed in it.
“I was in hospital unconscious and people thought I might not make it. It’s a fucking miracle that I’m here now. My mother – God bless her – she has to watch over me, she said, ‘Girl, it’s not time to go yet’.”
Madonna’s mother died of breast cancer when the singer was five years old. The time in the hospital caused the “Queen of Pop” to think about her mother and her last moments: “I had this strange thought. I suddenly felt sorry for my mother, not because of how she was dying, but how lonely she must have felt in the hospital, knowing she wouldn’t live much longer.”
Madonna explained live that she wasn’t doing very well at the moment, but that she was grateful for the further opportunity she had been given: “I thank God for my children and all their love and support.”
In mid-October 2023, Madonna started her “The Celebration” tour in London. A total of 78 shows are planned for the coming months, including four concerts in Germany. On November 15th and 16th she will make her first stop in this country in Cologne and return for two more gigs in Berlin on November 28th and 29th.
