Madonna laments derogatory comments about photos

Pop star Madonna has criticized derogatory comments about her appearance. She sees herself “once again caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny,” wrote the 64-year-old on Instagram.

Ageism refers to the negative evaluation of people because of their age, misogyny means misogyny. Madonna lamented “a world that refuses to celebrate women over the age of 45 and feels the need to punish her for continuing to be determined, hardworking and adventurous.”

Her post refers to comments on social media after she announced the pop duo Sam Smith and Kim Petras at the Grammy Awards on Monday night.

“Rather than focus on what I said in my speech thanking the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim, many people chose to just talk about close-ups of me,” wrote the Like a Virgin “-Singer.

The images were taken with a long-lens camera and “would distort anyone’s face,” she said.

German singer Petras, who in her speech also thanked Madonna for her “fight for LGBTQ rights” at the Grammys as the first trans winner in the pop duo category, reacted to Madonna’s post with heart emojis.
