Madonna was forced to apologize to her fans in Toronto last week during the North American leg of her “Celebration Tour.” The Queen of Pop took the stage with the words “Are you ready, Boston?”
After playing two concerts in Boston on January 8th and 9th, the 40th anniversary tour moved on to Toronto, Canada for two gigs on January 11th and 12th. During the second appointment, she made her momentous slip of the tongue, but immediately corrected herself after exclaiming “oh, shit.”
A little dig at Lady Gaga
The singer continued as planned after the faux pas and asked later: “Are you mad at me for saying ‘Hello Boston!’ said? I’m sorry. What kind of fucking crap is this? That would be like saying, ‘Hey, Lady Gaga is playing tonight! I wouldn’t like that either,’” joked the 65-year-old.
But that shouldn’t have been it and continued to tease: “I mean, you know, nothing against Lady Gaga. I love her. I really do! I love anyone who is smaller than me.”
She was probably alluding to the long-standing feud between the two pop greats. Madonna publicly accused Gaga of imitating her years ago, but after the 2019 Oscars, peace seemed to reign after a shared picture.
New setlist in Boston
On January 8, Madonna sang the 1989 hit “Express Yourself” for the first time during her tour in Boston. The dance-pop song had not yet been part of the setlist and she played around 40 songs in the previous concerts.
