Visiting 35 cities across North America and Europe for her upcoming tour, Madonna looks back on a 40-year career. That seems to be enough for her as a self-homage – the 64-year-old has now canceled all ongoing work on her biopic, as American media reports.
Julia Garner (“Ozark”, “Inventing Anna”) would have played the lead role, Diablo Cody (“Juno”) worked on the screenplay, former Sony boss and current producer of the “Spider Man” series, Amy Pascal, produced accepted. All preparatory work for free?
Madonna shifts her focus – and Julia Garner loses perhaps her biggest role
According to Variety, the project, which was announced back in 2020, “is no longer in development at Universal Pictures.” Insiders say Madonna has decided her only focus is touring.
And this despite the fact that Garner is said to have survived an apparently “grueling” casting process to get the role of Madonna. A report on the cancellation by The Hollywood Reporter said the casting process for potential Madonnas included 11-hour days of choreography sessions, readings with Madonna, and vocal auditions.
It is not yet known whether work on the biopic will be resumed after the tour or not.
Madonna on tour: the dates in Germany
“Small” consolation for all fans: Madonna is going on a “Celebration” world tour this year and is also coming to Germany as part of her 35 concerts. On November 15th and 16th she will be a guest in Cologne and on November 28th and 29th in Berlin. Special guest is Bob the Drag Queen aka Caldwell Tidicue.
Her current album is called “Madame X” and was released in 2019.
