Maddison sale inevitable for Leicester City – Man United & Co. on it

Interest from Man United & Co.

Leicester City will most likely start the 2023/24 season without their most valuable player by far. Again “Telegraph” reports, a sale of attacking midfielder James Maddison in the summer is inevitable. The 26-year-old still has a contract with the Foxes until June 2024. Regardless of the outcome of the season, Maddisons is said to be leaving. Leicester City are currently struggling as table 18. to stay up in the Premier League.

The up-for-sale professional is reportedly being courted by Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. Relegation-threatened Leicester have come to the realization that they have to rely on a well-known model after a record loss of £92.5m – the equivalent of €105.5m: the sale of a top performer. Maddison’s asking price is said to be between £45m and £60m (€51m-€68m). Its market value is currently estimated at EUR 55 million.

Coach Dean Smith, who replaced the sacked Brendan Rodgers on April 11, highlighted the similarities between Maddison and Aston Villa’s record Jack Grealish exit, of which he had played 90 times. The 27-year-old joined Manchester City in 2021 for €117.5m. Hopeful Maddison should now keep his team in the league with similar advantages – and then put them on a healthy footing financially.

“I think when you have players that have that personality and that character, they drive you as a coach and you want to help them become better players. James seems to have that too,” Smith said. “He always wants to see what he can do better. He’s very engaging in our briefings and tactical briefings, and he’s also very vocal. I see the similarity (with Grealish, ed.) in that he always wants to improve. (…) I like what I’ve seen in training so far and he hasn’t disappointed in the games either. All the players are very focused and James is certainly one of them.”

Maddison joined the Foxes from Norwich City in 2018 for €25m and has provided nine goals and seven assists in 27 games in all competitions this season. The surprise champion of 2015/16 has repeatedly made important players money in recent years, including Harry Maguire (19/20 for 87 million euros to Man United), Wesley Fofana (22/23 for 80.4 million euros). Chelsea), Riyad Mahrez (18/19 for €67.8m to Man City) and Ben Chilwell (20/21 for €50.2m to Chelsea).
