The program will air for 6 episodes, including a Valentine’s Day special “dedicated to love”, the hosts underlined in the press conference. The director of the Prime Time Entertainment Department Marcello Ciannamea explained that it is “a new adventure that fits into the editorial line of Rai 2”.

In particular, Mad in Italy wants to offer «fun entertainment, comical, which will not only be traditional.” That is to say aims to be «a comedy variety show, a show in the true sense of the word with the use of many components.” Antonio Azzalini, CEO of Tunnel Produzioni – the company that produces the format – explained its genesis.

«The Rai Entertainment Management asked us to think of a program that was not a spin off of Made in Southbut that it was something built from scratch.” Regarding the management, the choice fell on Gigi and Ross and Elisabetta Gregoraci because “we thought they were the best that the past has expressed in terms of comedy programs as hosts”. As compared to Made in South, it will be a “more written than usual” program, but this “will not take anything away from their ability to improviseit will be a story.”

With regard to the title, comes from the desire to «photograph the madness of this moment. The strangeness of the world we are living in, speaking with irony and making use of old and new artists. We want to photograph the madness of our society, the new professions, the new languages, the new customs», he concluded.

Elisabetta Gregoraci: «I want to get involved»

«I will be the older sister of these two rascals», anticipates Elisabetta Gregoraci. «I’ll have to keep the two of them at bay, but really we have known each other for many years. We also love each other very much and we will put our spirit on the stage. A bit of lightness, comedy, lots of smiles. We always have fun behind the scenes and we will have fun on stage too.”

The partnership between the three began Made in South in 2012 and continued until 2016. In 2017, however, Gregoraci presented together with Gigi D’Alessio and Fatima Trotta. “I am very happy to return to what has been my home for many years,” she added. He doesn’t reveal much about what he will do, but promises that the authors are already working on it wants to get involved “beyond management”.

Gigi and Ross announce that the goal is to «aim for variety, to bring that climate back there.” They will interact a lot with Stefano Palatresi’s orchestra, but they will also “take a step back” compared to the past because they want to dedicate space to comedians and they will intervene to “back them up”. Finally, the mad of the title derives from the fact that «if they are not crazy we don’t want them», says Gregoraci. The traveling companions explain that during the auditions they discovered “real madmen” from North to South and that there will also be mockery of some Rai programmes.
