The French leader believes that the search for mutually acceptable solutions for European security should be conducted with respect and understanding for Russia.
“I have always maintained a deep dialogue with President Putin, and our responsibility is to work out historic solutions,” Macron said in an interview with Le Journal du dimanche.
“I believe that President Putin is ready for this,” he added. The President of France stressed that it was with this attitude that he was heading to Moscow.
He also expressed the opinion that “the geopolitical goal of Russia today is clearly not Ukraineand clarification of the rules coexistence with NATO or the EU”, and an effective and sustainable dialogue between the West and Russia “cannot and should not take place through the weakening of any European state”, reports “Interfax”.

The French President believes that it is necessary to protect “European brothers, offering a new balance that can preserve their sovereignty and peace.”
“This must be done simultaneously with respect for Russia and understanding of the current personal traumas of this great people and this great country,” Macron said.
