Macron is committed to Mbappé staying

French President Emmanuel Macron wants to convince striker Kylian Mbappé to stay with champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Asked by a young PSG fan on the sidelines of the VivaTech fair in Paris on Wednesday, Macron said he had “no idea” about Mbappé’s future. “But I will try to defend the French captain’s whereabouts,” the politician continued.

The future of the vice world champion is open. On Monday, Mbappé told the French news agency “AFP” that he had never considered the unilateral option to extend his contract with the French soccer champions. Accordingly, Mbappé informed the club officials on July 15, 2022 that he would not make use of this option next summer.

Mbappé’s contract expires in the summer of 2024, activating the option would have tied the star striker to PSG for another year. Paris are now considering selling their exceptional 24-year-old player this summer to generate a transfer fee. Real Madrid has been traded as a potential buyer for some time.

Macron has spoken to Mbappé about his future before. Last year, the offensive player made it public that he had spoken to the head of state about his possible move to Real. At the time, Mbappé reported that he appreciated the French President’s “good advice”.
