French President Emmanuel Macron explained his call to Russian leader Vladimir Putin with the relevant request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reports Reuters.
As Macron clarified at a press conference, Zelensky asked to call Putin, since he himself could not get through to him.

The telephone conversation between the leaders of Russia and France took place on the evening of February 24. During the telephone call, the French side was given “exhaustive explanations” of the reasons and circumstances of the military operation in Ukraine, the Kremlin’s website reported.
Earlier, Zelensky said that he had requested a telephone conversation with a Russian colleague, but had not received a response. “Today I initiated a telephone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation.
