After his Lollapalooza gig, Macklemore wanted to go dancing at Berghain, but failed at the door.
In his nearly 20-year career, it has Macklemore already made it to many stages around the world. However, the dance floor of the Berlin techno club Berghain will probably be denied him. Because when the rapper wanted to party there after his gig at the Lollapalooza Festival in the Olympic Stadium (September 10th), the bouncers didn’t let him in.
Macklemore had no chance at Berghain
Berghain, which opened in the Friedrichshain district in 1998, is known for its strict admission policy. To this day, it is difficult for many partygoers to get past bouncers like Sven Marquardt. US star Macklemore also had to stay out despite (or perhaps because of) his celebrity status.
The “Thrift Shop” rapper was in the capital over the weekend of September 9-10 as he was one of the headliners at the 2023 Lollapalooza Festival. In order to properly celebrate the successful gig in front of around 60,000 spectators, the 40-year-old wanted to dance in the infamous club. However, Macklemore’s attempt failed.
At least he took the situation with humor. In an Instagram story in which Macklemore filmed himself and an acquaintance in front of Berghain, he ironically commented: “If you get rejected when you try to get into Berghain… 1/4 in my career.”
But the Grammy winner doesn’t have much reason to be upset because other stars didn’t make it to Berghain. The richest man in the world and Twitter renamer Elon Musk also had to stay outside when he tried his luck at the door in 2022. He probably took the rejection personally and claimed afterwards that he had no intention of actually wanting to go to the club. An oversized “PEACE” lettering on the wall bothered the Tesla owner.
