Mack Rutherford gears up for solo flight around the world

Mack Rutherford received his pilot’s license last September when he was 15, becoming the youngest pilot in the world. Now he also wants to become the youngest male pilot to have flown around the world. That record is now held by Briton Travis Ludlow. With that attempt he goes after his sister Zara, who flew around the world as the youngest female solo pilot.

Prepare for disaster scenarios

Of course, a lot of preparation precedes such a trip. Today he is in the training center of Ostend. There he learns to deal with disaster scenarios, such as a crash at sea.

Mack departs from the Bulgarian capital Sofia on March 22 and flies from east to west. His sister did it the other way around.
