Mac DeMarco has announced a new album. Surprising: It is a collection of instrumental pieces. “Five Easy Hot Dogs” was created during a trip from his hometown of Los Angeles to a cabin in Utah. The album will be released on January 20th, the vinyl editions will follow on May 12th.
In a press statement, the indie musician said: “Some places I’ve stayed longer than others. Some I knew from before, others not so much. I was trying to do something all the time. If I didn’t know what was going on in a town, I would just walk around until someone recognized me. I met a lot of interesting people and had a lot of cool experiences.”
“The shack could probably have slept 20 people, but instead it was just me craving nicotine with a bunch of stuffed animals. No other people within probably 50 miles. Terrible idea. I lasted one night and drove back to Los Angeles the next day,” he says.
“I never had a sound in mind or a theme or anything. I just started recording. Luckily, the recordings from that time all shake hands. They have a common musical identity.”
