Maarten van Rossem refuses to join the evening stage

Maarten van Rossem is not prepared to join De Avondetappe, the much-watched cycling talk show by Dione de Graaff. “I really don’t sit in the car all day for that.”

The Evening Stage invites not only cycling enthusiasts to join the conversation about the Tour de France. After a grandiose stage, Marcel van Roosmalen sat at the table last week, who received a lot of criticism for his ‘sour’ performance. Maarten van Rossem is also not a cycling fan, but we should not expect him in the talk show.

Martin doesn’t want to

Maarten sees no reason to join a program about the Tour de France. “No, The Evening Stage is not crazy enough to let me join, I would say. What should they hear from me?!” he says in his podcast.

He also points out that De Avondstage is broadcast from France. “Yes, say, I’m not going to sit in the car all day for ten minutes in De Avondetappe.”

Cynical talk

What does Maarten think about Marcel being there? “If I’m a little bit informed about Marcel van Roosmalen and television, then my impression is that he is specially asked to give a little comic, cynical talk, right? That is his specialty.”

That’s totally fine, Maarten thinks. “Let’s thank God that there are several people who can do that, because the stupidity of constantly laughing at each other is a plague that spreads like a fungus over the television.”

‘Applies to me too’

Maarten also likes to offer that counterbalance. “Let’s be honest, that goes for me and a lot of my TV appearances, that you’re specially invited to have a little sour talk.”

But not about the Tour de France. “Preferably about a subject that you can also talk sourly about.”
