The number of times Youp van ‘t Hek has lashed out at Maarten van Rossem can no longer be counted on two hands. The jury member of De Slimste Mens is someone who says yes to everything and who will certainly have a shitty marriage, according to the comedian. The bottom line is that Maarten is a ‘camera addicted elderly person’, according to Youp.
Pursuit of effect
What does Maarten think of something like that? “I thought that was sweet of Youp, because he is of course a man who doesn’t care about public attention and who doesn’t care whether the theaters are full or empty. That doesn’t bother him at all. He walks through life lonely and he really doesn’t care at all whether people like it,” he responds cynically.

Pot blames the kettle
Maarten doesn’t want to go that far. “Well, I don’t know. That’s what you’re implying now.”
Sidekick Ron Vergouwen: “The pot calling the kettle, is that what you’re saying?”
Maarten: “Yes, that’s more my thing… I find it quite comical that someone like Youp van ‘t Hek says that you are camera addicted or attention addicted – that is actually the same thing.”
‘Absolutely not’
Margreet wonders whether Maarten wants to express something like that with Youp. “If you met him, wouldn’t you bring it up?”
“Absolutely not,” Maarten responds firmly. He says he only values the opinions of intimates. “Why would I do that? The chance that I would become intimate friends with Youp van ‘t Hek seems extremely small to me, but otherwise I would bring it up, like: ‘You said such and such and I thought that was quite strange, to be honest.’”
Annoying things
People who fall outside the group of intimates? Maarten says he doesn’t really care about that. “No, of course you don’t bring that up. You meet so many people who have said nasty things about you.”
