Maarten van Rossem expects viewing figures VI Today to collapse

Maarten van Rossem expects the viewing figures of VI Today to collapse. Johan Derksen’s talk show scores very well on SBS 6, but according to the historian, that will not remain the case.

Just before the weekend, the men of VI Today have made mincemeat of Maarten van Rossem’s performance in the talk show Op1, where he was talking through a NATO bobo all week last week. The Smartest Man jury member has not apologized for that performance. In fact, it was his intention.

42 talk shows

Maarten thinks it is silly that the VI men have criticized it. “You must have very little to do if you want to discuss the fact that in Op1 there has been a mix-up for thirty seconds as a topic. Boy, what a poverty,” he says in his own podcast.

Yet VI Today attracts more viewers than Op1. “I don’t think it will take very long. Their ratings weren’t great before they started this show. You will see it go down. My impression is that first of all there are way too many talk shows – I believe there are 42 talk shows.”

TV laughter

VI Today differs from Op1, because the men do have something to laugh about. “They laugh? Then I’m against it anyway. The so-called TV laughter.”

Maarten does admit that Op1 could be a bit more atmospheric. “The atmosphere at Op1 would be better with a little more audience. The capital flaw of Op1 is that they always invite way too many people. There was now also half a village. There were also just people who said three sentences in total. They just need to invite a small gathering with a clear focus to talk about. Not six subjects.”
