Jong AZ coach Maarten Martens will retire at the end of the season. A spokesman for the club confirms this. The fact that Martens stops with the promise team does not mean that he will leave the Alkmaar club.
It is not yet known who will succeed Martens at Jong AZ. At the football club it is not unusual for trainers to be shuffled. Jan Sierksma from the under 18 team is a logical option.
Martens and the club are still talking about the future of the Belgian trainer. Martens is in his second season at Young AZ. As a footballer, he played with the club from 2006 to 2014.
Great season
Director of football affairs Max Huiberts gives in the NHD that he would like Martens to remain connected to AZ. Jong AZ is having an excellent season and is well on its way to the highest final ranking in club history. The Alkmaar talents are currently eighth in the first division. The best final result was thirteenth place last year.
