MARATHON SKATING – Maaike Verweij finished second in The Hague during the last race of the Marathon Cup. The marathon skater from Veenhuizen also won the final classification for the youngsters.
Verweij’s team, Team Zaanlander, had thinned out considerably in the last race. Irene Schouten and Marijke Groenewoud are in Beijing for the Olympic Games. Nevertheless, Verweij managed to cross the line in second behind Bianca Bakker.
Winner youth classification
After this race, the rankings of the Marathon Cup were drawn up and Verweij finished this edition as best youngster, ahead of Janet Beers and Famke Mossinkoff. The general classification was won by Lisa van der Geest. Verweij finished fifth here.
