MAA director hopes for future with electric flights | 1Limburg

Director Jos Roeven of Maastricht Aachen Airport hopes for a future in which cargo flights and electric flying for passengers are central.

He told that on Monday evening in L1 television program Limburg Central.

Four future scenarios
In doing so, he expresses his preference for a mix of two of the four future scenarios for the airport that have been worked out by provincial politicians. These range from maximum growth, somewhat more modest growth, transformation to electric flying and closure. The Provincial Executive will present a final proposal on Wednesday.

The video below explains the four future scenarios for the airport:

disrespectful
The director anxiously awaits the decision, as do his staff. “Since 2014, closure has hung over our heads three times. That is very difficult for the staff, who are softened by the years of discussion. Their jobs are thought disrespectful. They are scratching their heads. They lack recognition and appreciation . That hurts her the most.”

Electric flying
Until now, only GroenLinks and the Party for the Animals felt something in favor of closing the airport. The VVD only if tax money has to be added again. A horror scenario for Roeven, who sees a future in cargo flight and electric flying. “That can be done with smaller vehicles, so you don’t have to fill many seats. All regional airports are now having trouble with that.”

Fly to the Randstad
Maastricht is also favorable for electric passenger flights, according to the director: “In terms of distance, you are not going to fly electric from Rotterdam to Amsterdam. Then you take the electric car. But that can be interesting from Maastricht. But also a number of other European cities that are within within the range of electric flight.”

used to uncertainty
How the Provincial Executive sees the future will therefore be announced on Wednesday. The Limburg Parliament will then take a final decision on 3 June. These are exciting times for Roeven. “But after five years of uncertainty, I’m used to something.”
