The incorporation of Lydia Valentín to the Equality Observatory in February 2020 was the creation of Luis Rubiales
The changes in the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) continue, and this time, the athlete Lydia Valentín, outstanding medalist in weightlifting and figure close to former president Luis Rubiales, will also cease to be part of the football organization. Valentín joins the list of changes in the RFEF and must say goodbye to the annual salary of 27,000 euros that he received from the federation.
Lydia Valentín played a role in the Equality Observatory, a body created in 2020 that aimed to promote equity in Spanish football. Another member of this observatory, Miguel García Caba, was also recently fired from the RFEF. According to media reports Onda Cero and Relevo, Valentín’s dismissal occurred because he did not adequately assume the responsibilities of his position in the federation.
The incorporation of Lydia Valentín to the Equality Observatory in February 2020 was part of Luis Rubiales’ efforts to promote gender equality in Spanish football. However, according to RFEF employees, Valentín was never seen at the Las Rozas facilitiesheadquarters of the federation, in the three years since the creation of this body.
The dismissal of Lydia Valentín adds to a series of changes and movements in the Royal Spanish Football Federation. Previously, it was confirmed departures of Andreu Camps, general secretary and right-hand man of Luis Rubiales, as well as that of García Caba, director of Integrity, and Pablo García Cuervo, head of communication. These changes mark a new stage in the RFEF, which seeks to adapt to a constantly evolving environment in the world of Spanish football.
