Luz Marina Kaplan: the artist who is nourished by nature and mystery

What inspired you to pursue visual art?

It was my first love, my primary passion. From a very young age I spent my time painting and as time and years went by I learned different types of techniques. But it was undoubtedly in elementary school when my personal style emerged. My art teacher at that time knew how to see it. I continued along different paths but several years ago I returned to embracing visual art.

How would you describe your artistic style and what techniques do you use to create your works?

I have a very personal style that emerged around the age of 10. These are curved lines that generate different types of frameworks. At first I used India ink on paper but for a couple of years now I have been working with canvas and brush inks. Doing my curve work with the brush was an interesting challenge that took me a long time to master, I’m still perfecting my technique.

What themes or motifs predominate in your artistic production and what message do you want to convey with them?

I consider my lines as a kind of representation of nature, I feel in some way that they are roots that nourish me and then develop within me and then these organic forms are created that at the same time are a symbolization of emotions and Human nature.

I am inspired by the habitat in which I live daily, I choose to be in contact with the plants and the earth, the sound of the trees and the calm that all that environment reflects. My message is that we are nature, we must not lose the connection with it.

Do you think there is an emotional connection between the artist and his work?

It seems essential to me that this connection exists, if we do not limit ourselves in the appreciation of art to considering it merely an ornament or a decorative object. And I dare to go further, I like when the work reflects the spiritual being of the artist, the soul that can be glimpsed in the brushstroke or the type of representation chosen.

What projects or exhibitions do you currently have underway or planned for the future?

I am preparing some works that will travel to Miami closer to the end of the year on the occasion of Art Basel and art week in Miami, together with Galería Azur. It is a project that has me very excited and the 2 works that are going to travel are large format and will be exhibited for the first time since they are very recent.

I am also already planning the agenda for next year with some smaller exhibitions and perhaps an individual exhibition will come.
