Luz Cipriota: “I am concerned about the situation in the industry”

Flag bearer of her school and with a step in rhythmic gymnastics, Cypriot Light he always knew that his destiny was art and body expression. When he finished high school he entered three schools simultaneously: he studied theater, singing and dance. In one of the best moments of his career in Argentina, he began to flirt with the idea of living abroad, he was in Mexico, Brazil and Italy, but finally he stayed in Spain.

Installed in Madrid, three months ago she became Lorenzo’s first-time mother and that is the role that she is currently most passionate about. The actress who was directed by Woody Allen and worked with Gael Garcia Bernalalso participated in major productions such as “The Cable Girls” and “Luis Miguel, the series”. Now he presents his new film, “Axioms”the debut of Marcela Lucchetawhere he shares a cast with Jorge Marrale, Cesar Bordon and Paula Cancioamong others.

News: How do you choose your projects? He made strips, musical comedy, series, movies, children’s…
Cypriot:
I don’t like to pigeonhole myself into something, I like to go through many registers. That means that I never get bored, that I always have to learn something new. The monotony destroys me. The choices I am making in my career have to do with living new experiences that constantly challenge me.

News: What do you remember from the filming of Rifkin´s Festival, under the direction of Woody Allen?
Cypriot:
It was a bit crazy. Having the opportunity to work with him is something that one dreams of as a child, but when you grow up you think: “Well, that’s not going to happen to me anymore.” And he passed. And although it was only one day of filming and my participation in the film was very small, for me it was an experience that I will never forget, it is having the opportunity to see what he is like at work, the deployment before a production of that size, they are all things that one fantasizes about seeing. Just the fact of sharing a set with him was impressive, even more so that he directed me. It is something that I remember as a fun experience, where perhaps I could not display much acting, but it will remain in my heart.

News: Is there any other director you fantasize about working with and think it’s impossible?
Cypriot: I realize that nothing is impossible.
I hope I continue to have the opportunity to work with people from different countries, different cultures. I am prepared and open for new things to happen.

News: The actor’s work is quite unstable, there are times when there is a lot of work and others not so much, what happens when the job you are waiting for does not appear?
Cypriot:
That is a reality. Our work is not continuous, but I I have another facet that has to do with teaching, I really like teaching children and adolescents. I have a school in Buenos Aires called We Follow and I run another musical theater school here in Madrid. Both in the moments in which I am working as an actress and those that I am not, I have a lot of energy put into my schools, that means that I can give back everything I received from my teachers. It keeps me active, I learn a lot teaching my students. Now I have just become a mother and I was teaching the children for 9 months as if nothing had happened, I had just given birth 24 hours ago and I was coordinating which teacher was going to teach the class in Buenos Aires. It’s a choice I make, it makes me feel good. As a result of maternity, I rediscovered all these spaces with this novelty of a baby that obviously requires a little more energy.

News: What did you find in motherhood?
Cypriot:
On the one hand, I look at Lorenzo and I still can’t believe it, I say “how strong this person came from inside me”, it’s a bit incredible, but on the other hand I feel that I am a mother for life. I was always surrounded by children, nephews, friends with children, it is something that I feel comes easy to me. I don’t see it in any way as something that costs me or that I say at any time: “I’m not going to be able to”. With David, my boy, we make a very good team in that sense. I didn’t have a very good time during pregnancy, I had several months of vomiting and dizziness, it touched me that way, but motherhood hit me unbelievably. From day one I am happy, even if I sleep little I am very happy.

News: Now you are filming for a Spanish series, how did you feel when you went back to work?
Cypriot:
It is a challenge for me. I agreed to do this series because there are only a few days of filming. I want to enjoy this unique moment that I am going through. This series makes me work as an actress again, but from another side, I’m doing it little by little and it allows me to see how I feel. Here in Spain are Lorenzo’s grandparents who are absolute kings and who take care of him with a lot of love and makes me stay calm. But when I go back home I’m dying of love and I don’t want to let it go.

News: Why did you go to Spain?
Cypriot:
I never made the decision to leave and never come back, I never said goodbye in Buenos Aires, it was quite gradual. First I traveled for a few months, then I came back, I left again, until at one point I rented something fixed here in Madrid. It was two years in which I was coming and going. To this day, and with the baby more than ever, I choose to be here, I like the city, I feel very comfortable with the people. As well I feel that even though I’m here, I don’t stop working for Argentina. With movies, series, one works for the world. “Las Chicas del Cable”, “Luis Miguel”, are series that are seen in 140 countries, no matter where one is based. I always want to go back to Argentina. Due to the pandemic, I haven’t been there for more than two years, if everything goes well I’ll be there in April and I can’t wait, I want to share Lorenzo’s birth with my family.

News: During the pandemic many Argentines went to Spain.
Cypriot:
Yes, it is full of Argentines. When I came in 2017 I had finished El Maestro (El Trece), I had won a Martín Fierro, I came at a time when everything was flowing and now the feeling is that they are coming here because there are no jobs in Argentina. The reality is much harsher. It makes me sad. I feel that everything we had gained in production in Argentina, having the talents we have, that so little is being produced and that the pandemic has had such an impact on the sector worries me a lot. That is why I want to invite people to go to the movies to see “Axiomas” and in this way support the national cinema, so that there is more work and we can tell our own stories.
The film, which was shot in Argentine Patagonia, has as its backdrop the environmental pollution produced by open-pit mining and the damage it causes to a Mapuche community. “My character has a duality, on the one hand she fights for the environment, but at the same time she has things to resolve internally. I identify myself because one always has that duality, what one wants to do, but internally we are all struggling with things, family, personal, psychological”, says Luz.

News: You met your partner, the film director David Serrano, working, what can you tell about that story?
Cypriot:
We met in Argentina many years ago, when I made Joaquín Sabina’s musical called “More than a hundred lies”, he was the director, it is a work that he had directed in Spain and they staged it with an Argentine team in Buenos Aires . Seven years passed until we met again in Spain and began to build a relationship. On the one hand we are dating recently, but on the other we have known each other for many years.

News: How is the couple transformed with the baby?
Cipriota: It flows so well that I feel that we are not transformed, only that we are multiplied in happiness.
Obviously the logistics are more complicated because one has to give up some things, but we do it with great pleasure, I don’t feel like I’m giving up other things for my baby, but rather that I want to do it, now my priority has to do with Lorenzo. The same thing happens to David. Every time we want to spend more time at home and not miss a minute of being with him.

News: You also did musical comedy, would you like to deepen the facet of music?
Cypriot:
I don’t know if I imagine myself a singer, going on tour, with a band, being Beyoncé, it’s a dream that maybe I abandoned a while ago (laughs). I really like working as an actress, but music is something that flows for me, it is part of my day to day. Recording songs, making an independent album, is something that will eventually happen. For now the moment has not happened, but it is something that I would love.
