High demand for leather bags and fashion drove luxury goods manufacturer Hermès in the first quarter. Revenues rose by a third to around 2.8 billion euros compared to the same period last year, as the French group announced on Thursday in Paris. Hermès benefited above all from robust demand in the Americas and Europe regions, with growth rates of more than 40 percent. The Management Board recorded good developments in all business areas there.
The Asian business (excluding Japan) increased by a fifth. After good sales in connection with the Chinese New Year, Hermès has been struggling with resurgent restrictions in connection with the corona pandemic in China since mid-March, such as the lockdown in Shanghai. (dpa)
