Luuk Ikink’s life has undergone a rigorous overhaul in the summer. The presenter of RTL Boulevard was always used to drinking all weekend after a busy week at RTL Boulevard, but he abruptly stopped. “Today marks exactly 100 days since I last drank alcohol.”

Hundred days sober

Luuk’s revelation that he managed to stay sober for a hundred days is what he does in his stories on Instagram. “For a hundred days no beer, no wine, no rum and whiskey, no cocktails, nothing at all.”

He continues: “In the middle of the summer holidays I decided to take on a challenge: no alcohol for 66 days. In that number of days you could develop a new habit. It’s not that I drank that much: never during the week, only on weekends. But yes, then you have a glass of wine on Friday evening, on Saturday and then on Sunday.”

All kinds of excuses

Luuk kept looking for an excuse for it: on Sundays, for example, to end the weekend. “And around me I heard many stories from people who also decided to stop for a period of time. I thought so too! (…) I thought it would also be good as a preparation for a new and long season of RTL Boulevard.”

I liked it. “I could sometimes miss it for about 50 days, after that drinking was no longer part of my rhythm.”

‘I feel amazing’

Luke’s life is very different now. “The 66 days flew by and after that… I felt great! I decided to extend the challenge to 100 days. I know that for a lot of people this is the most normal thing in the world and they always said that you would feel so fresh and stuff… and they were damn right!”

The change is enormous, according to Luke. “I’ve always been someone with a lot of energy, but now especially: fresher, more productive, sleep better, you wake up faster in the morning.”

Never again

Will Luke stay sober? “Now I’m going to have a nice glass of wine this weekend, haha. That was also the intention: to stop for a long period of time, so that you can rearrange your drinking behaviour.”

However, one thing the Boulevard star knows for sure: he never wants to go back to the way it was. “I still don’t drink during the week. And much less on the weekend is the intention. But maybe after that first glass of wine this weekend I think that the alcohol-free period can last a few months longer. M curious!”
