Luuk Ikink finds Yvon Jaspers very absent in nitrogen debate: ‘Strange’

Luuk Ikink finds it strange that Yvon Jaspers is so absent from the nitrogen debate. He points to her role as a presenter of Farmer Searches for Woman. “That is quite remarkable.”

Yvon Jaspers is the presenter of one of the most popular programs on Dutch television: Farmer Searches for Woman. Although the entire program revolves around farmers, she hardly speaks about the nitrogen problem, which hits the agricultural sector hard. And RTL Boulevard star Luuk Ikink finds that strange.

Yvon afraid?

Luuk is surprised that Yvon does not assert himself. “What strikes me: Yvon Jaspers has never commented on the whole nitrogen issue. She may not know anything about nitrogen either, but still: she as the face of farm life on television is remarkable,” he says in The BLVD Podcast.

Colleague Bridget Maasland thinks Yvon is afraid of criticism. “Of course something went wrong there, didn’t it, for a moment?”

Rob Goossens then: “Yes, exactly, because he started lobbying for ForFarmers. He thinks: let me say nothing more, otherwise I will get it back like a boomerang.”

Farmer seeks wife

Luuk wonders whether Farmer Wants Woman should pay attention to the nitrogen problem. “Do they have to do something about that with Farmer Searches Woman? With that nitrogen problem? Or just ignore it completely?

Bridget: “I think they’re going to ignore it completely, because it’s about love in the end.”

Rob: “And there are plenty of farmers who have nothing to do with it at all, right? If you have a field full of maize, it will bother you much less.”

Short statement

After a lot of outside pressure, Yvon had one last summer short statement about the farmers’ protests. “The farming world is turned upside down,” she said at the time. “Difficult, sad and sometimes desperate conversations are held at many kitchen tables. This nitrogen problem does not only concern the farmers. It’s yours, mine, all of us.”

Yvon stuck very much in generalities. According to her employer KRO-NCRV, the presenter does not want to comment on current issues surrounding farmers.

Politically correct

You would think that Caroline van der Plas, as the forewoman of the BoerBurgerBeweging, would love Yvon and her farmer dating show, but nothing could be further from the truth. According to her, the program has become very politically correct.

Caroline also thinks that Yvon is a scared pooper. She argues that ‘the mainstream farmers’, such as pig farmers, are hardly represented for fear of action groups such as Varkens in Nood. “I don’t think they dare anymore. I just regret that. There are also farmers who are looking for women. Why aren’t they allowed anymore?”
