After the win over Bodø/Glimt, the PSV players in Norway already set their sights on Sunday. Then PSV will face Ajax. According to captain Luuk de Jong, PSV will go to Amsterdam with a good feeling in view of the latest results. “We have achieved good results against Ajax in the past. We will take that with us.”
Ajax is still the leader of the Eredivisie, but the team from Amsterdam is not yet convincing. In Europe in particular, it had to deal with a lot of blows. It therefore seems the ideal situation for PSV to hit your biggest competitor.
“I don’t have that feeling,” said Ruud van Nistelrooij on Thursday evening after the victory over Bodø/Glimt. “It’s a competition in itself. What happened last week doesn’t count. Both teams will be motivated to the bone. That can make for a special match.”
“We are not in a better position than Ajax”
Luuk de Jong agreed with those words. “We are no better off than Ajax. There is a lot at stake on Sunday. We mustn’t let the gap get bigger.”
The captain, like many other strongmen, is back from injury. Just in time for an important week with matches against Ajax and AZ. “I’m also 100 percent fit and can play 90 minutes on Sunday.”
“Only Olivier Boscagli and Ismael Saibari will not be there yet”
The trainer also expects a fit selection. “There are still some players who stayed at home, but I assume they will be back on Sunday. Only Olivier Boscagli and Ismael Saibari will not be there yet.”
So the trainer can make choices. The question is, for example, where he will put Xavi Simons and at the expense of who that will be in the starting line-up. Of course, Van Nistelrooij keeps his cards to his chest, but we should not expect a completely different tactic.
“We are going to present ourselves as we have been doing in recent weeks”
“There is good development going on. On Sunday we will therefore also fly into the race as we always do. We go for the maximum result. We will present ourselves as we have been doing in recent weeks.”
The match between Ajax and PSV is scheduled for 16:45 on Sunday afternoon. Ajax currently has four loss points less than the Eindhoven team. With a defeat of the Eindhoven club, the gap can grow to seven loss points.
