Luuk de Jong has passed Luc Nilis in the ranking of PSV’s top scorers in the Eredivisie. During the match against NEC, the striker scored his 111th and 112th goal for the Eindhoven team. This puts him third on the list of all-time top scorers of the Brabant club in the Eredivisie. Nilis scored 110 goals during his time at PSV between 1994 and 2000.
Luuk de Jong has been back at the Eindhoven club since July 2022, where he has signed a contract until at least 2025. De Jong also played for PSV from 2014 to 2019, but left there to play football for Sevilla. He also played a number of games on loan for top club Barcelona in 2021.
Back in Eindhoven
Now he is back in Eindhoven and that paid off immediately. De Jong was immediately given a starting place and also scored 14 goals in 24 rounds of the Eredivisie last season. With this he brought his total number of goals for this club to 108 and passed Romário, Mateja Kežman and Hallvar Thoresen in the list of club top scorers of all time.
Record breaker
De Jong broke even more records this year, because on August 4, 2023, he was the first player ever to play the match for the Johan Cruijff Shield for the seventh time. He won it for the sixth time that day.
De Jong is now in third place in the PSV rankings of best top scorer. Only Willy van der Kuijlen (308) and Coen Dillen (119) scored more times for PSV in the Eredivisie.
