Lutz Pfannenstiel returns to Europe after five years in North America. The former sports director at Fortuna Düsseldorf, who had to leave St. Louis CITY SC in August, will take over as sports director at Aberdeen FC in Scotland from November 10th.
“With his extensive experience in training, scouting, youth development and leadership, which he has gained in various functions and cultures, we believe Lutz will play an important role in achieving the club’s footballing goals over the next few years,” said the club statement.
Aberdeen, cup winners last year, are currently eleventh in the Scottish Premiership with seven points from nine games. At 23.6 million euros, they have the third most valuable squad in the league behind the two heavyweights from Glasgow. There were also rumors about Pfannenstiel around Borussia Mönchengladbach a few weeks ago before Rouven Schröder was introduced there.
