Luton Town’s Cinderella story was crowned at Wembley as the team secured promotion to the Premier League.

It had dropped out of the former first division after the spring of 1992, and had to play for a long time even outside the entire English league pyramid when it received a 30-point penalty in 2009.

Just five years ago, the team was in League Two, i.e. in the lowest branch of the four-tier league.

Luton’s rise to the limelight is arguably one of the most beautiful in modern sport, having built a Premier League team with very little financial resources.

The deciding match of the promotion qualifier turned out to be a real thriller, and no one on the field thought about the stake of more than 200 million euros, which was in store for the winner.

Jordan Clark gave Luton the lead midway through the opening period. He got the ball Elijah Adebayon after the deflections, and fired it in with power from the front corner as Sky Blues striker Ben Wilson misjudged.

by Mark Robins managed Coventry, however, came up to speed in the second period, and by Gustavo Hamer a great placement after just over an hour brought a well-deserved equaliser.

No more goals were seen because Joe Taylor’s the perfect goal in the second half of extra time, which seemed like a solution, was erased from the scoreboard after the VAR check. The ball hit Taylor’s hand as he dispossessed Coventry Jonathan Panzon from the leg.

That’s how we got into a tough race.

It was continued at a steady pace until the sixth innings, where Coventry’s equalizing innings was taken care of Fankaty Dabo shot the ball over and past the goal.

Luton Town won the penalty shootout 6–5.
