Luton Town is promoted to the Premier League – millions in revenue for sure

Most valuable endgame in the world

The traditional English club Luton Town has secured promotion to the Premier League. The “Hatters” won the decisive playoff game against Coventry City on Saturday evening 6:5 (1:0, 1:1) on penalties. Luton are back in the top flight for the first time in 31 years and will play their first season in the Premier League since 1992. Previously, Sheffield United and second division champions Burnley FC had already managed to get promoted.

Luton had ended the season in third place in the second-tier Championship, with Coventry fifth. The teams ranked 3rd to 6th compete in knockout games for the third promotion spot. From a financial point of view, the biggest final in European club football was also about revenue of well over 100 million euros.

Luton’s captain, Tom Lockyer, caused a moment of shock at the start of the game, going down without any opposition and requiring treatment for several minutes. The 28-year-old was taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to a hospital for further checks. The club later said Lockyer had been responsive and also posted cheering pictures of the captain from the hospital via social media.

Luton Town now faces major challenges. The 10,226 capacity stadium on Kenilworth Road will need millions of dollars in construction work to meet Premier League standards. The already smallest venue in the championship is a rare sight, especially for away fans.
