Lustige Velodroom Blankenberge can count on Michel Van den Brande as an investor
A buyer for the Velodrome has not yet been found, but there is someone who wants to help guarantee the future of the business. Michel Van den Brande came by to have a drink on the birthday of the Velodrome and thinks the track is an icon in Blankenberge that should not disappear. He sees additional possibilities for the track, for example by installing a terrace in the middle or creating additional play areas in the sand. Van den Brande will appeal to his network and draw up a plan to save the Velodrome together with a few other entrepreneurs.
THIRD GENERATION
The Lustige Velodroom, the track that you can ride with crazy bikes, has existed since 1933. Owner Thierry Monbaliu is already the third generation of the family who runs the business. The entrepreneur has been looking for a buyer since 2021. The man’s health no longer allows the use of the track. Still, he is happy that the velodrome was still able to celebrate its ninetieth birthday.
For sale for €300,000
In a supporting role, current manager Thierry is happy to continue working for a few more years. Now the construction and demolition takes its toll and weighs on the long summer days. Thierry makes no secret of it: his track is for sale for 300,000 euros, although that price can of course be discussed. By September he hopes to find investors to exploit a new concept and thus be able to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of De Lustige Velodroom within ten years.
