Luna Jonkers surprised as a promise with Dutch title on natural ice

SKATING – Luna Jonkers (21) from Emmen has become Dutch champion on natural ice on the Swedish sea ice of Luleå. And that while she is normally part of Cenned’s U23 team on artificial ice. This season, she is appearing in top division matches due to various injuries within the team.

What also makes it extra special is that Jonkers was left with a half paralyzed left arm as a result of a serious bicycle accident.

In the course over 100 kilometers, the marathon skater from Emmen rode alone for a long time and finished with more than two minutes ahead of her pursuers. The silver went to Ineke Dekken and the bronze went to Elsemieke van Maaren.

Luna is the younger sister of Sterre Jonkers who rides long track races.
