Lululemon launches Mylo collection

Lululemon has launched two mushroom-leather bags as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

The Canadian retailer of sportswear and accessories has introduced the world’s first yoga accessories made from Mylo. Mylo is a vegan, sustainable and animal-free leather alternative made from renewable mycelium, the root structure of fungi – a process pioneered by California-based company Bolt Threads.

The collection includes two bags: the Meditation and Yoga Mat Bag, a triple-use bag and yoga mat with a unique design that doubles as a base and can be rolled up or folded in half to be carried. There is also the “Barrel Duffel Bag” which features multiple pockets and a detachable pouch to keep gym gear separate.

Created by Lululemon’s accessories design team, both bags incorporate Mylo into the bags’ intricately woven handles and braided tabs.

Lululemon first announced its plans to make yoga accessories from mushrooms in July last year. These are part of the company’s investments in material innovation, which, as a founding member of the Mylo consortium, aims to contribute to a more sustainable future. Lululemon had jumped in price last year thanks to good quarterly figures and closed the 2020/21 financial year on a strong note.

The combination bag made up of a meditation and yoga mat costs 238 US dollars (around 210 euros) and the round bag costs 328 US dollars (around 290 euros). Both can be purchased online in North America and in select stores worldwide.

In addition to Lululemon, the luxury group Kering, designer Stella McCartney and sporting goods manufacturer Adidas also rely on Mylo.
