The Canadian sportswear supplier Lululemon Athletica Inc. is further expanding its international presence. On Tuesday, the Vancouver-based yogawear specialist announced the opening of its own online store and its first two stores in Spain. The company is thus opening up a new market in Europe for the first time since 2019.
The start will therefore be the opening of the Spanish e-commerce platform at the end of July. The first two stores in the country’s most important cities are to follow in September. Lululemon chose the Calle Serrano shopping street in the heart of the capital Madrid and the Paseo de Gracia (Passeig de Gràcia) in Barcelona as locations.
André Maestrini, Lululemon’s Executive Vice President, International, responsible for overseas expansion, explained the forthcoming market entry: “As a brand that promotes well-being, Lululemon has a strong connection to the active, balanced lifestyle in Spain,” he explained in a message. “We look forward to engaging with Spanish guests on our website and in the first two stores to open in Madrid and Barcelona. The strength of our business model in product innovation, guest experience, community and culture provides a unique advantage in bringing Lululemon to our newest market.”
So far, Lululemon is represented in eight European countries with its own shops and online stores. The remaining markets on the continent are served by the central European e-commerce platform. The expansion of international business, which the company is now driving with its market entry in Spain, is a central element of the current growth strategy: The declared goal is to quadruple annual sales outside of North America by 2026.
