Left-wing former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has won Brazil’s presidential election. With more than 99 percent of the votes counted, he comes in at 50.8 percent of the vote, against 49.2 percent for the current president, the right-wing populist Jair Bolsonaro. With that, the election race is “mathematically decided,” according to the highest electoral authority in the country.
