There will be no “hot war” over Ukraine, because countries are accustomed to comfort and will not want to lose it because of hostilities, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko believes. He stated this during a meeting on personnel issues, transcript placed on the website of the head of state.

“I am simply convinced that there will be no hot war. We are too accustomed to comfort. <...> If some crazed Nazis in Ukraine don’t stage a provocation, we won’t fight, we haven’t approached this war,” said the leader of Belarus.

Lukashenka pointed out that there is now a lot of talk about the war and the military, and admitted that the authorities may have “overdone” this issue. “Well, why should we remain silent? So that later, if something suddenly happens, the people will tell us: where were you, why didn’t they tell us? the Belarusian president asked. He added that people need to be informed about the situation.

In early February, the Belarusian president gave an interview to Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov, in which he also spoke about the war. Lukashenko said that if the Ukrainian authorities “start a war against Donbass”, the Belarusian army will act in the same way as the Russian one, the response of the armed forces of the two states will be joint.
