The World Championships in Antwerp should pave the way to Paris for gymnast Lukas Dauser. The 30-year-old is currently only planning his career until the Olympic Games next year and leaves it open whether he will continue his career afterwards.
His goal is Paris, said the Olympic and World Cup runner-up on parallel bars in an interview with the “German Press Agency”. Until then he wants to do everything he can, train well and be passionate and have fun. “That’s what counts for me in the next few months,” explained the Unterhachinger.
At the World Championships in Antwerp, Dauser wants to secure qualification for Paris in the team all-around competition on Saturday together with Andreas Toba, Pascal Brendel, Nils Dunkel and Lucas Kochan. This requires at least rank twelve.
Whether the team of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) will achieve this will only be determined after the eliminations with the last two qualifying groups have been completed on Sunday afternoon.
End of career after the Olympics? Turn ace Dauser talks about tarpaulins
One reason for thinking about his sporting future was his 30th birthday last June. That’s always a bit in the back of our minds, says Dauser. “That also put a bit of strain on me. That’s why I worked on the matter with my mental coach,” admitted Dauser.
He is currently in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr with the rank of staff sergeant. “After the World Cup I will complete another course, hopefully pass it and become a sergeant,” he announced.
The bar specialist is also studying international marketing. This is a business administration course with courses in English, he explained. “I still have four exams and the bachelor’s thesis. The goal is to finish it at the beginning of 2025. Then we will see how things continue in terms of gymnastics, whether it continues or not. I don’t want to be there yet 100 percent,” said Dauser.
After retiring from his career, the 30-year-old would like to stay involved in the sport, but he doesn’t yet know in what capacity. “Definitely something in the direction of sports. I enjoy management and marketing,” said Dauser.
