FA Cup
Chelsea are in the semi-finals of the English FA Cup. The football club from London, which is up for sale and which has been subjected to severe sanctions by the British government because of its Russian owner Roman Abramovich and faces an uncertain future, confidently defeated second division FC Middlesbrough on Saturday 2-0 (2-0 ) through.
Three days after the Blues reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League at LOSC Lille, Romelu Lukaku (15th minute) and Hakim Ziyech (31st) both scored on a template from Mason Mount at the Riverside Stadium for the superior team of German coach Thomas Tuchel . Outsiders Middlesbrough, who had knocked out Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United from the FA Cup in the previous two rounds, missed out on another cup surprise. Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy had little to do.
Because of the sanctions, the Londoners were not allowed to sell away tickets in Middlesbrough. During the week, the Blues caused outrage with their request that the game should be played in front of empty ranks “for reasons of sporting integrity”. The club then withdrew the request.
