A teammate from Welstar Lionel Messi took itself next weekend. That now had consequences.
The scene caused a sensation: After the final whistle of the Leagues Cup final between Inter Miami and the Seattle Sunders (0: 3), unsightly scenes occurred last weekend. Right in the middle: Luis Suárez. The 38-year-old is closed to an opposing official for six games for a spit attack-but only for the next edition of the tournament.
This was announced by the organizer’s disciplinary committee on Friday. The North American league MLS reserves further sanctions.
After the defeat against Seattle, Suárez started on Sounders’ professional Obed Vargas, took the 20-year-old into the sweat box. As a result, the situation escalated, players and supervisors of both clubs were involved. The spit attack also occurred.
In addition to Suárez, his teammates Sergio Busquets and Tomas Aviles were subsequently closed. Busquets is missing Inter Miami two games, Aviles is pulled out of circulation for three games. Steven Lenhart received a lock of five games from the coaching team at the Seattle Sunders.
Suárez, who has already been blocked several times in his career for unsportsmanlike behavior, was already about the incident on Thursday. On Instagram he wrote that it was a moment of great tension and frustration. This does not justify his reaction, but he “made a mistake” and regret it “sincerely”.
