The president of the RFEF is convinced that Barça did not buy any referee
Paying Negreira “is a reprehensible action, but I defend arbitration honesty”, he assured
The president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, denies that the payments to Enríquez Negreira, former vice president of the CTA, had the final destination of influencing the competition with the purchase of referees. The leader, in an interview with ‘El Chiringuito’, has no doubts about “the honesty of the arbitration team” and, in addition, asked to respect “the presumption of innocence”.
“It is something that we have come across, it is a reprehensible action, we all agree on that, but where the interviews on television have to be explained beyond press conferences, it is before the judge,” explained Rubiales, who added that “a press conference at this point in the film doesn’t seem interesting to me, you have to speak before a lawyer and a judge”.
And it is that the president of the RFEF is “convinced of the honesty of the refereeing group, this did not go beyond or arrive… because this man had the powers he had, He did not participate in the appointment of referees, he did not participate in promotions or relegations…“, he clarified. In this sense, he insisted that “he did not participate in the name at any time, the body that appoints the referees is made up of a former referee proposed by the president of LaLiga, another by the RFEF and another by consensus”. .
Asked why Barça paid Negreira, Rubiales replied that “it is a question that they will have to answer. I am convinced, I have been a footballer, that they may have been wrong, but they have not reached that level”.
