Luis Diaz’s father still held hostage: the ELN is behind the kidnapping

A unit of the National Liberation Army is believed to be behind the disappearance of Luis Diaz’s parents. The Colombian government is moving towards peace negotiations with the guerrilla group.

They were kidnapped on Saturday by a group of bandits at a service station in the town of Barrancas, in the northern department of La Guajira.

No trace of Luis Manuel…

Cilenis Marulanda, the mother of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, was later released on the same day on Saturday. However, another fate befell Luis Manuel Diaz, the latter’s husband, still a hostage of the ELN unit, at least from what emerges from the words of a Colombian government official. Meanwhile, the ELN is said to be in constant dialogue with Gustavo Petro’s government to negotiate the man’s release and a ceasefire. The head of the government delegation Otty Patino, as well as the chief peace negotiator with the ELN, through a statement, formally requested the release of Mr. Diaz.

These are his words: “We ask the ELN to immediately release Luis Manuel Diaz. It will be the ELN’s responsibility to guarantee his life and integrity.”
