Despite a weak start, the basketball players from Ludwigsburg celebrated a clear victory in the last main round game before the playoffs. Coach John Patrick’s team won against the promoted team from Heidelberg with 98:83 (46:41). The best shooter on the Ludwigsburg side was the outstanding Jonah Radebaugh with 30 points, Maximilian Ugrai delivered 22 points for Heidelberg.
Ludwigsburg meets Ulm in the playoffs
Ludwigsburg made too many mistakes in the first quarter and went into the first quarter break with a deficit of 17:24. In the second quarter, Ludwigsburg lived up to their role as favourites, took the lead and didn’t give it up until the end of the game. With the victory, Ludwigsburg finished the main round in the basketball Bundesliga in fourth place, in the playoffs the Swabians now meet ratiopharm Ulm in the main round fifth in the state duel. Ludwigsburg has home advantage in the first quarter-final game against Ulm on Saturday, May 14 from 8:30 p.m.
Heidelberg was already sure of staying in the class and ended the season in 15th place in the table. The BBL table is based on a quotient rule this season, since two teams could only play 33 instead of the full 34 main round games. Because the teams from Bayreuth (14th place), Heidelberg (15th) and Mitteldeutsche BC (16th) all played 34 games and achieved a point ratio of 22:46, they achieved the same quotient value. The direct comparison therefore decided on the final placement. Of the six games between the three teams, Bayreuth won three, Heidelberg two and MBC one.
Justin Simon voted best defensive player
As part of the game on Wednesday evening, the Ludwigsburg team had another reason to celebrate. Justin Simon was officially named the league’s top defender. Simon had already won the election in April, and the ceremony, including the presentation of the trophy by BBL Managing Director Stefan Holz, took place around the game against Heidelberg.
