Lucas Nicholas flooded with comments: “My phone is ringing”

On an ordinary Wednesday afternoon, 22-year-old Lucas Nicholas from Opmeer recorded a video in his backyard. In the video he sings his own English version of the song ‘The Rain of Sunbeams’. He shared the video on social media and to his surprise, it has now received more than half a million views. But that’s not all: after a reaction from none other than Thomas Acda himself, Lucas is inundated with responses and requests for interviews.

“My phone is red hot,” Lucas Nicholas tells WEEFF. Various radio stations have already approached him to perform live. Success overwhelms the young musician: “I never expected this.”

Watch the interview below. The text continues after the video.

On social media, Nicholas posts various videos ranging from his own songs to covers like this English version. “My goal is to upload three videos every week,” he explains. Last Wednesday he had not yet posted a video and his father pointed this out to him: “He is always very sharp in it. I had already recorded the song once, but was not very satisfied with it.”

Then he went straight to backyard, recorded the number and posted it. “And then the video got picked up more than other times, but then my phone kind of exploded,” Nicholas enthuses.

Support act for Acda and de Munnik?

Tonight the artist from Opmeer will enter the studio to record the song in its entirety. “That was one of the most common responses: When are you releasing it?” In addition to the many favorable reactions, there are also comments such as: ‘You must be the support act for Acda en de Munnik!’

Although there has been brief contact between Nicholas and Thomas Acda, this is not yet the case. “To be honest, I’m not really into that, but it would of course be very cool!”

The new fans can continue to expect videos from him in the near future. “I like to share my own music, but there will be other songs that I will translate.” For those who also want to hear the song live, they will have the chance on Saturday 10 June during the Hoornse Stadsfeesten. “I’m standing on the Roode Steen, so that’s very cool!”, says Lucas.
